- The magnetic field is a result of the continuous rotation of the Earth's
- liquid iron core. This rotation evolves slowly, causing a slow wandering of the
- magnetic poles. According to calculations the Earth's magnetic poles swap
- directions every 100 000 thousand years (approximately). The oldest evidence of
- large changes in the magnetic field is over 3.5 billion years old.
